Chia Oats With Honeyed Pears

Chia Oats With Honeyed Pears

I’m a serial, cereal girl. I love a bowl of All Bran in the morning, or Bran Muesli with yogurt, or a power-packed bowl of oats.

I don’t ever eat oats without peanut butter anymore. There’s just no point. But I soon realised that if I keep inhaling peanut butter daily in winter with my oats, I am going to gain weight, because technically peanut butter is a fat.

Anyway, I saw a post on Instagram that made me drool and it motivated me to poach these pears for breakfast and pair them with my oats. And it turned into something quite remarkable. This breakfast was satisfying and delicious and it’s also the perfect post-run combination of 1 protein, 1 carb and a fruit.

Ingredients for 1 portion

1/4 cup oats cooked in water and salt

1/2 pear

3 tbsp honey

1 tsp cinnamon

1 1/2 tsp chia seeds

1 almond

Method

  1. Cook your oats like you normally would in water and salt. Add Chia seeds to the warm pot and let it rest.

  2. Heat a pan on medium heat and once the pan is hot, place the pears, flesh down in it, and you’ll hear them sizzle. Drizzle all the honey over the pairs and add 1/8 cup of water to the pan. Do it in quick succession.

  3. Add cinnamon and after about 2 minutes, turn the pear quarters over. Cover the pan with a splatter lid for another 2 minutes and by now you’ll notice a slight caramalisation.

  4. Empty your oats into a large bowl and layer the pears in it, with some extra berries if you have them. Grate the 1 almond over the dish and drizzle your porridge with honey and leftover sauce from the pears.

  5. Enjoy warm.
